The Transbed when used in conjunction with the PTS (positioning and transfer system) assists a single caregiver to transfer a patient with limited mobility. The Barton I-660 chair fully integrates with the Transbed.

Frame
* The bed is constructed of powder coated metal
* It accommodates weights up to 450kg
* It is available in one size only, but the bed frame is expandable in width and length
* It fits through standard hospital doorways and fits mattresses from 990mm to 1220mm wide
* The in built digital scale allows the patient to be weighed in bed

* At the foot end, the side egress bars are fitted to both sides of the bed. They adjust vertically and also swing out at right angles to the bed to aid transfer

* Legrest raise: leg section of bed elevates and bends at knee area and the foot end of the bed remains elevated parallel to the bed frame
* Knee break: leg section of bed elevates and bends at knee area so the legs below the knee are angled downwards (triangular configuration)
* Trendelenburg Tilt: allows the entire bed to tilt so a person's feet can be higher than their head. Reverse Trendelenburg tilts the bed in the opposite direction

Method Of Use

Steps for patient transfer using The Barton PTS
1. Set up convertible stretcher next to patient's bed.
2. Attach straps of The Barton PTS to bedsheet.
3. Turn crank on the bar of The Barton to begin patient transfer. The sheet will roll onto the bar as the patient is gently transferred from bed to stretcher.
4. In preparation for transportation, remove The Barton from the convertible stretcher.
5. Convert the stretcher into a mobile chair, moving patient to an upright sitting position.
6. Patient is now ready to be transported.

* This entire process is repeated in reverse in order to transfer patient from wheelchair to bed

Considerations

In certain circumstances there is an element of risk involved in the use of a device that attaches to the side of a bed such that there is the possibility of entrapment between the device and the mattress. This includes but is not limited to a bed pole (stick), bed rail or bed rail protector. The device may increase the risk of injury or even death to the bed occupant. Entrapment of limbs or body parts may occur with parts of the bed and the device. Some bed occupants may try to climb over a bed rail to get out of bed.

A risk assessment should be undertaken in each circumstance of use. The device should not be used in circumstances where there is a gap between the vertical components and the mattress. Users most at risk include those with physical or cognitive challenges or where the intended user's alertness is affected by medication.

Regular monitoring is recommended, particularly where the user's condition is changing.
