ACE has been formed from the merging of two organisations, Deaflink and Deafness Resources Australia. It administers the National Relay Service (see 91.69). Their philosophy is to encourage independence empowerment through communication and information.
A Commonwealth Service that provides assessment and services to assist people with hearing problems.
AHS is a Commonwealth Statutory Authority which has been providing hearing services across Australia for 50 years. Services include hearing assessment, provision of hearing aids or other appropriate devices and hearing rehabilitation, at no cost to the client. An annual fee may apply depending on category of client, hearing aid maintenance and repair and a regular supply of batteries. Pensioners and some veterans are eligible to receive AHS services.
A non-profit company which aims to assist people with tinnitus. There is a joining fee and annual membership fee which includes subscription to the quarterly newsletter.
Provides an aural rehabilitation program designed to overcome the fears and isolation and address the needs of those with hearing loss. Also provides advice about assistive devices. Fees for classes. Prefer appointment to be made. Disabled access and facilities are limited.
Provides support and advice for pre and post cochlear implantees and families. Also provides opportunities to meet others socially and share information.
Eligible people can obtain free hearing services by applying to the Office of Hearing Services for a Hearing Services Voucher. This voucher is then presented to a hearing services provider.
The Deaf Education Network is a registered training organisation specialising in Adult Deaf Education. It provides accredited and non accredited programs for Deaf, hearing and hearing impaired people as well as Auslan (Australian Sign Language) Interpreter Service. Programs for the wider community and workplaces include Auslan classes and deafness awareness. Operates in ACT & NSW.
