Portable chemical toilets which are constructed in heavy duty plastic and consist of two tanks which lock together. The toilet is flushed by a hand pump located at the rear of the seat.
. `Porta Potti' 345 has a seat height of 330mm and the capacity for
approximately 44 flushes.
. `Porta Potti' 365 has a seat height of 419mm and the capacity for
approximately 50 flushes.
The flush capacities range from 30-40 flushes.
Available from camping and caravan suppliers, outdoor shops and some department stores.
The upper tank has a toilet seat and lid and a toilet pan style of bowl. The outer section of the bowl is filled with fresh water for flushing. The lower tank holds the waste which is deodorised and broken down by the addition of a chemical to this tank. A sealing valve between the two tanks is opened and closed before and after use by a pull handle at the front of the unit.
POINTS TO CONSIDER:
. May be useful in place of commode chair and pan as it does not require emptying daily.
. Lid does not provide back support as there is no cistern to rest on.
. Reference numbers of various models indicate capacity of toilet.
. Toilets with greatest capacity provide increased seat height.
. .Seat height may be too low - consider a chair raiser or frame.A frame designed to raise the height of a chemical toilet will provide armrests to assist standing transfers and a rail as back support or support for seat lid.
