Features to look for when buying equipment:
. Need proper external aerial tuning for clear reception.
Consider the need for aerial points in other rooms where TV is viewed.
. Consider the size of the screen. The captions occupy the bottom sixth of the screen. The bigger the screen, the bigger the captions. Some TV's have a feature to allow the captions to be doubled in size.

Types of Equipment:
TV with teletext - allows television captions to be decoded. Most major manufacturers have a number of models of teletext televisions. These can be bought at major department stores and specialist retailers.

VCR with teletext - (eg Loewe Centros VCR) allows for decoding of captions and for programmes to be recorded. A teletext TV is not required unless the viewer wishes to watch one programme with captions and record a different programme with captions at the same time.

TV with CCD - allow closed captions on video to be decoded. These are not teletext captions. A special VCR is not required. Some department stores and specialist retailers stock them.

VCR without teletext - allows open captioned videos to be watched.
